Medicine, Mirone (SIU): "Urologists should be more attentive to dialogue throughout the treatment process."

At the national congress, 'attention also to robotics and the declining birth rate'
Patients "must be considered" as a whole, that is, as "people facing a journey of illness and suffering." Vincenzo Mirone, national councilor of the Italian Society of Urology, stated this at the SIU National Congress underway in Sorrento, outlining the issues facing specialists. "The urologist's task must be to establish a direct connection with the person undergoing a journey" toward the diagnosis of "an oncological disease or another urological condition." The doctor must "create, above all, an emotional connection," he emphasized. "It is essential" for urologists themselves to develop the concept of counseling, that is, talking with people. This type of communication can only lead to a less painful journey with more acceptable solutions."
The conference attendees also discussed the latest developments in "robotic platforms," as well as the impact of the male component on the declining birth rate. "We need to focus not only on women, but also on men," Mirone warned, "because 50% of the responsibility for a child's infertility lies with men." The expert hopes that "good news" will emerge from the conference.
